About

INTRODUCING is an online quarterly literary magazine dedicated to exclusively publishing new writers. As of now, it is run solely by me, Cassidy Colwell. I am a writer who knows how hard it can be to break into literary magazines with no publication history. Whether the lovely editors of these magazines intend it or not, I have often wondered if there is a bias against writers with no credits to their name.

While submitting to Glimmer Train’s Short Story Contest for New Writers, I became curious about what other opportunities were available to unpublished writers. Was there a magazine designed with these people in mind?

After finding a lack of options, I decided to create one myself. I want INTRODUCING to be a launchpad for talent that might otherwise go undiscovered. Here, your writing can speak for itself, 100 percent. (And since this is an online magazine, accepted writers are still eligible for Glimmer Train’s New Writers Contest, and we all know that’s a plus).

So, who am I? I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. I received my bachelor’s in Creative Writing from the University of California, Riverside. After that I had a brief stint at the Los Angeles Review of Books before I left for Scotland to get my master’s in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh. I am currently in Los Angeles again, working on my novel and excited to introduce the next big names of short fiction.

Submission Guidelines

INTRODUCING accepts short fiction from 1,500-5,000 words from writers who have never had a story accepted for publication by a journal in print or online. Self-published writers are eligible to submit. While I appreciate the value of genre fiction, I am only interested in literary submissions.

Send your submissions to introducingmag@gmail.com. I ask that your work be double spaced with no identifying information. Attach a short bio in a separate file. Feel free to include what your first publication would mean to you, as well as your personal website or twitter handle.

Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but I ask that you inform me if your piece has been accepted elsewhere. Please also inform me if any of your work is accepted by another publication, as you will no longer be eligible.

By accepting publication at INTRODUCING, you agree to give us first serial rights and to credit us on subsequent publications.

I cannot offer payment at this time, but it is something I am working towards.
